On behalf of my client, a leader within their field, I am recruiting a VP of Technology to lead a cross functional team of currently c50/60 people.

Due to my clients ambitious plans to increase their market-share and supporting IT capabilities, this is a newly created role. You will be required to harmonise a cohesive set of services to the business globally by aligning their Technology offering across Product/Applications Development, Programme Office, Operations and ultimately creating a Shared Service capability.

As part of the Technology expansion programme, it has been acknowledged that more emphasis is required on the strategic planning and delivery of Technology and other strategic projects.

Technology Management and Development

To develop and lead a more effective Technology organisation, managing and developing the technologies required to meet the Business plan targets.

To ensure the efficient use of technology infrastructure, including the development and maintenance of technical and applications architectures.

To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of technology infrastructure and processes.

To deliver internal technology support capabilities in line with defined service level agreements.

Programme Management

Oversee the management of the Programme Office ensuring programme activities are being managed in accordance with business priorities, supported by accurate resource planning.

Product Development

To provide leadership in technology acquisition and development, including being responsible for technology roadmap.

In conjunction with Business Development and Sales, to develop and deliver Propositional Road Map in line with the business strategy.

Cost Control

To manage a multi-million GBP IT budget.

IT Policy and Procedures

To ensure IT policies are being adhered to across the business including customer data security and disaster recovery.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Previous experience of online/eCommerce products, applications development.

Data intensive systems/applications, such as; Content Management Systems, Data warehouse, ERP

Experience of working with Technology solution providers and Integrated Service Providers.

Experience of delivering shared service capabilities to a global business.

Leading product retirement and succession programmes.

Experience of Technology and technical organisation transformation programmes.

Experience of setting up and/or managing a global Shared Service Centre.

A technology ambassador to the business.

Driving efficiencies and cost through the Technology footprint – outsourcing, managed services, integrated business systems

Skills capability assessment and new skills adoption.

Product Legacy and retirement programmes.

Experience of working in a strong people culture organisation.

Java Technical Architect
On behalf of my client, who are world renowned and market leading within their field, I am looking for a J2EE Technical Architect to help to establish, build and grow their new J2EE enterprise architecture and development team.
The Role
Your main responsibility is to architecting and developing complex web applications and leading the technical team(s) to achieve successful delivery of projects. You must improve software development competence via initiation and management of change programs and will identify emerging trends or technologies.
You will offer effective solutions to highly complicated business requirements and technical issues and make sound decisions on technical projects related to software applications & architecture.
You will create the architecture/design of the systems and justification of the solution to clients and/or 3rd parties and communicate this to the team and support them in implementing it.

For consideration, you should have experience in some of the following areas;

o Strong experience designing and building commercial, complex, enterprise systems
o Strong skills in Java: J2EE: Jetty, Tomcat, WebSphere or Weblogic; Spring; Hibernate; Struts, Spring MVC or Tapestry; Apache and Oracle; virtualisation technologies

My client is now recruiting for an Enterprise Architect to support the organization in delivering their technology roadmap and blueprint for high performance.
Specific Responsibilities
Review new and existing IT projects/ideas, systems designs, and procurement/outsourcing plans for compliance with IT standards and architectural roadmaps.
Collaborate with end users and senior management to define business requirements for complex application development and gain buy-in for all development plans.
Consults with senior IT management on the design of moderately complex systems and projects. May consult with leadership on emerging technologies. Supports existing business systems applications from an enterprise architecture perspective working with the solutions architects for each application.
Strong understanding of how technology relates to business, market and industry and applies knowledge to support the needs of critical systems and projects.
Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a Global technology stands policy, build roadmaps and define application end of life scenarios.
Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of application development effort and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness time to market
Candidate requirements
Knowledge of Java, .NET and Cobol languages, working knowledge of web services and middleware technologies, Linux/Windows, Virtualization/VMWare, performance management, application lifecycles, BPM, datawarehousing, data architecture and BI tools.
Strong knowledge of IT systems, practices and functional units.
Extensive IT related experience. Bachelor’s Degree. Advanced degree is a plus.
Financial sector experience a plus.
Strong communication skills and ability to function as the business to IT liaison
Must be a self starter with ability to work remotely.
Escalates serious issues/challenges to more senior management.
Possesses in-depth knowledge of application development technologies, tools, methodologies, the enterprise and industry.
