The role:
The person will provide support for the daily operational activities within the Unix and VMware related environments and where required provide support and advice to project related activities.
The post will report directly into the Unix Team Lead and will be based in London.
The Person:
You will need a proven track record within a third line support team and be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, as well as excellent problem solving capability. In addition the following skill sets will be sought:
• Extremely organised with a keen eye for detail;
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Strong interpersonal and consultative skills;
• Able to prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
• Able to work to tight time-scales;
• Highly self-motivated;
• Exceptional customer service;
• Analytical and methodical in approach to troubleshooting;
• Able to work with other Infrastructure Teams and team members;
Education/qualifications:
• Degree qualified desirable
• Red Hat Certificated Engineer (RHCE) desirable
• VMware Certified Professional desirable
Work experience:
• 3-5 plus years experience working with Unix related technologies at an enterprise level
Desirable technical skills:
• Excellent knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, 5, 6
• Good knowledge of enterprise storage technologies (SAN, NFS, RAID)
• Good scripting/programming ability including Perl, Shell and PHP
• Good knowledge of OS deployment technologies including Kickstart
• Good knowledge of enterprise class server hardware including HP, and Dell
• Experience with VMware vSphere 4-5 an advantage
• Solid understanding of virtualisation concepts
• Working knowledge of monitoring systems including Nagios, Cacti HP SIM
• Working knowledge of database administration including Oracle and MySQL
• Working knowledge of HTTP (Apache), Squid, SMTP (Postfix), FTP (ProFTPD), AFP (Netatalk), NFS, Samba (CIFS), DNS
